The client runs a multi-location operation with hundreds of employees spread across sites. Headquarters had no reliable way to reach frontline staff in real time. Teams were fragmented across WhatsApp groups, email threads, and notice boards. They came to us with a clear brief: build one place where work starts.

One hub for the entire organisation

We designed and built a closed-group social network available on web, iOS, and Android. Every employee — from store floor to boardroom — logs into the same platform. News and announcements from headquarters appear in a shared feed the moment they are published. Groups can be created per team, location, or project. Conversations stay private, structured, and searchable.

The web and mobile apps share a single API layer, so a message sent from a desktop browser arrives in milliseconds on a warehouse worker's phone. No delays. No duplication. No information lost between shifts.

Built for scale, not just for demos

Real-time at scale is a fundamentally different problem from real-time in a proof of concept. We built the messaging layer on WebSockets backed by Redis pub/sub, with careful engineering around connection management, reconnection handling, and message-ordering guarantees. The notification system delivers consistently across platforms — push, in-app, and digest — without duplicates or missed alerts.

Moderation tools give administrators full control over what gets published in the shared feed. Role-based access ensures that sensitive announcements reach only the right groups. Five engineers worked on this for twelve months — and the complexity justified every one of them.

The outcome

The platform launched on schedule and replaced every informal communication channel the organisation had been patching together. Frontline teams report higher engagement with company news. Managers spend less time chasing confirmation that information has been received. Headquarters can now reach every employee in seconds — not hours.

The client operates the platform as a core product. We continue to provide ongoing development support and ship new features on a quarterly release cycle.
